category has gone from
occasional pastime
to way of life

Many stationers shy away from crafting
and DIY product — but according to the 2016
Creative Products Size of the Industry Study,
released at Creativation in January, conducted
by MaritzCX and sponsored by the Association
For Creative Industries, its growing legion of
fans is more likely than not already amongst
your clientele. Among its many interesting
findings, 63 percent of households, up from 56
percent in 2010, participate in crafts.
The online survey, conducted from October
2015 through September 2016 with results
from 9,636 respondents, found that 73.4 million
households participated in crafts in the past
year, and 65.5 million households in the last
month. All this brings the total annual US
market spend to a hefty $43.893 billion.
What is behind this surge? Crafting and
DIY have become "an essential counter to the
high tech world of gaming and social media,"
